Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and other coalition partners have expressed resentment over the Supreme Court’s decision to annul the ruling of Punjab Assembly deputy speaker declaring Hamza Shehbaz elected CM.
The decision reflects double standards of justice that will result in chaos and serious problem, PML-N leaders said while addressing a press conference after the top court announced the verdict. however, the government is mulling over other options.
Marriyum Aurangzeb said “We asked the top court continuously to constitute a full court to hear the case.
She added had a full court been constituted, the verdict would have been different.
“This decision is tantamount to the judicial coup and this will lead to further anarchy and divide the nation. More than half of the people of Pakistan do not accept this,” she said.
Atta Tarar said the decision was against democracy. Questioning the “double standards of justice”, he said there can’t be two standards of justice for “Imran Niazi” and the PML-N.
PML-N VP Maryam Nawaz dubbed the court decision as a judicial coup. Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif took to his Twitter to show his resentment. He tweeted that the decision made a ‘mockery of Pakistan’.
In a statement, Hamza Shahbaz said the government elected by people’s votes was sent home through a “controversial decision”.
“Has the status of the assembly become a rubber stamp?” he questioned, adding that over the last four months, the biggest province of the country has become a “laughing stock”.
Talal Chaudhry remarked that the party does not accept the decision and that they would approach the people’s court.
In a statement, Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) President Maulana Fazlur Rehman described the Supreme Court verdict on Punjab CM election as ‘judicial murder of democracy’.
