The upcoming local bodies’ elections in Punjab will be held on party basis, as the provincial assembly approved the local body bill on Wednesday.
According to the Local Government Bill, the upcoming local elections in Punjab will be on party basis while there will be 25 District Councils and 11 Metropolitan Corporations.
According to the bill, union councils will be formed in villages and towns, while tehsil councils and towns have been abolished in the new Local Government Act. Each village will have a ‘panchayat council’, while each district will have a District Cabinet. Moreover, all the development authorities will be under the Metropolitan Mayor.
