PM Shehbaz forms committee to assess damage in flood-hit areas

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Thursday presided over a meeting during which he formed a committee of federal ministers to assess the damage in the areas hit by monsoon rains and floods across the country.

The prime minister directed the committee members to visit all the flood-hit areas within the next four days.

“On August 4, short-term, mid-term and long-term comprehensive plans will be formed in the light of the committee’s recommendations,” he said.

“The aid to the affected/injured should be increased from Rs50,000 to Rs200,000,” he added.

“By abolishing the separate aid [packages] for mud and cement houses, the same assistance should be provided for all the damaged houses,” he ordered.

“The aid for partially damaged houses should be increased from Rs25,000 to Rs250,000, and for completely damaged houses from Rs50,000 to Rs500,000,” he directed.

“The federal government will fully support the provincial governments to deal with the effects of this natural disaster,”
